Lawrence Psychedelic Society opens minds and builds community around emotional wellness

Following in the footsteps of advocates like Paul Stamets, Ian Cook — founder of the Lawrence Psychedelic Society (LPS) — is exploring how to bring psychedelics into mainstream mental health.

Psychedelics like MDMA and psilocybin are Schedule I drugs, which means they’re highly restricted and research into their benefits is limited. LPS is trying to change that on a local or even state level, as more studies show that these substances are effective in treating conditions like PTSD, depression/anxiety, and opiate addiction.

This episode shares Ian’s work to build community and share education on spirituality, mental health, and emotional wellness through psychedelics. You’ll also hear from Eapen Thampy, a Missouri lobbyist with CBD American Shaman and Great State Strategies, who’s pursuing drug law reform from inside the Capitol. He explains the current state of the movement and why it’s gaining unlikely allies in law enforcement and veterans groups.
