KU FNSA’s 35th annual Powwow, 7th annual Indigenous Cultures Festival draws thousands

With its annual Powwow and Indigenous Cultures Festival, the KU First Nations Student Association invites the community to celebrate the diverse traditions of Indigenous peoples. The festival, which is free and open to the public, is being held today from 10:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Lied Center.

The family-friendly event features Native artists and food vendors, educational sessions, hands-on workshops, and children’s activities. The powwow offers another window into Native customs such as traditional dances and regalia, and it honors tribal elders, youth, veterans, and more.

Native Americans have unique cultural heritages and knowledge across the 574 federally recognized tribes in the US, and another estimated 400 that are unrecognized. With a strong intertribal presence in Lawrence, this event offers an opportunity to enrich the local community and draw many attendees from out of state.
