Foster Village Lawrence to host lemonade stand fundraisers in July to support local foster kids

Throughout the month of July, local families and organizations will host lemonade stands to raise money for Foster Village Lawrence, a nonprofit organization, as part of its “Growing the Village is Sweet” fundraiser. With a goal of $15,000, all proceeds will go to supporting foster families in Northeast Kansas.

Each month, there are around 6,000 children living in foster care in Kansas. Foster families provide vital support and stability to local kids in crisis. However, 50-60% of foster families stop fostering after their first placement, citing lack of support and burnout. This is where Foster Village Lawrence steps in, providing aid and holistic support services including childcare, clothing, furniture, mentorship, and more.

This episode features the kick-off event, where families braved the rain to get their lemonade stand supplies and explore the nonprofit’s resource closet.

You’ll hear from Jenny Lichte, co-founder of Foster Village Lawrence. She shares the importance of their work and how others can get involved to support local foster kids.
